Sporting Venues, Sports Grounds, Teams and Sports Facilities in Bristol

Bristol is home to division two football clubs. Bristol City F.C. have enjoyed much success in recent years but have narrowly missed out on promotion in 2003 and 2004. They play their home games at the Ashton gate stadium which is situated near the city centre just south of the river Avon. The stadium itself is available for private hire for things like birthday parties and corporate events.

The second major football city team to be based in the city are the third division Bristol Rovers who play at the Memorial stadium and used to enjoy popular local derby fixtures against Bristol City until relegation to the third division meant they didn't play each other any more.

Rugby too is a popular sport within the city with the Bristol Shoguns Rugby union team playing their home fixtures at the Memorial stadium also.

Football is by no means the only sport on offer n Bristol. The city wide initiative simply called Bristol sport was launched to promote sport in the Bristol areas at all levels. There are many organisations throughout the city that have leant their support to this programme so consequently all types of sport and more importantly the facilities to do them are provided in Bristol.
